Bee Blocks - Transition

Transition Block

This bee block is large, about 25" x 15" - there is some room for Anne to trim it as she likes. For September in Bee Sewcial Anne's theme was transition. She also shared a painting by Leonid Afremov (go and check him out, his colours are fantastic) as inspiration for the colours, a beautiful pinboard and invited us to interpret the theme transition any way we liked, making one larger block.

Transition Block

Well, I have been exploring circles for a long time in my own Cycles series of quilts. Lately I have been transitioning that series into exploration of large improv circles. So for this block, I thought I would transition further into an oval block. Pulling all the colours to start with neutrals and move to ultra saturated was fun. Making the block was a dream. And I love its yummy simplicity too.

A friend has asked for a tutorial so I am hoping to make more improv circle and oval blocks soon.

Best,

Leanne

Leanne, add me to the list of friends who are requesting a tutorial for this! I love modern pieces and the structure of this is so cool! It's just a bit wonky (in a fabulous way) and definitely something I'd like to make!

This block stands alone quite beautifully. I adore the intensity of the colors, and how the design has a mirage-like appearance. You nailed this one!

LOVE love love. Those colors are positively enticing in your shapes. Now I need to go and listen to my pre-election radio broadcasts and sew my brains out in order to cope. Maybe I'll play around with something like this? Thanks for the inspiration.
