Scraptastic Tuesday - the July link is open!

It's the second Tuesday of July, and the Scraptastic Tuesday monthly link is open. First, there has been a bit of scrappy sewing going on at my house.



I find that often I sit down to sew but I don't want to work on my ongoing projects. I don't have another project that I am burning to start. The other night I was also feeling physically tired as we are painting the interior of our house now and I had been painting a lot so I wanted to sit and not jump up and down to trim and press. But all the same I wanted to sew.

So I opened my pot of solid scraps and found a set of strips already cut. So I made some log cabins. I lowered my ironing board to sit along side my sewing table and I used my portable cutting mat. I kept the blocks small enough to trim on the small mat and to fit the strips that were handy.



Last night, I felt equally weary, although without a great reason. So I opened my box of sorted scrappy strips and thought I would use blackish and whiteish strips, mostly because they were on top and thus the easiest.



I've been itching to make some log cabin labyrinth blocks since I posted the Modern Labyrinth Trivet Tutorial last week, so I decided to make black and white labyrinths. The strips were not even widths in the box, but I just used what was handy, and the different widths work fine. Again, I let the blocks grow until I could no longer easily cut them on my little mat, so the largest is about 15" squareish.



Here are my scrappy log cabin blocks so far. I'm not sure what they will become - I am thinking that it would not take that many more of each set to be a nice baby or lap quilt or interest on a quilt back. Or I could make them bigger next time I feel more agile in the sewing room and they could be cushions or maybe so big that one block could be a quilt or a quilt back? Many uses, so I think I will continue to play with log cabin variations with my scraps on those "I just want to sit and sew" days.
