It's the second Tuesday of the year, and of January, so the Scraptastic Tuesday monthly link is open.
I've spent much of my holidays tidying and unpacking and arranging and rearranging, in my whole house, including the sewing space. As you can see, I have unearthed my longarm - for a long while she was a fabric holder as you can pile a lot of fabric on the longarm's table. I have also managed to get some of the scrap boxes handy under the long arm and I've put away the fabric.
I am hoping to reorganize the scraps. I have struggled with how to do that as I don't like the idea of chopping up my fat quarters (they are in the dark cupboards) before I am sure what size I need. But since my scrap boxes are so full, I am going to work on organizing/cutting the larger pieces into 5" squares and into strips and store those separately, which will, hopefully mean that I can consolidate the remaining scraps into 4 boxes - warm, cool, low volume and solid. Since I don't like cutting fabric, this is a big step for me - let's see how it works out.
I also put mostly scrappy projects on my Q1 FAL list so that I would focus on them first this month. I'm out of town for work until later this week, but I hope to have some more scrappy progress to show you next week.
Now its time for you to share your scrappy projects, plans and ideas.

Hi Leanne! Your sewing studio starts to look very well organized! I also just organized my fabrics and scraps and realized for my horrow that soon I run out of scraps! Perhaps that means that it's time to make a quilt to create scraps! Thank you for hosting the party! x Teje
ReplyDeleteI thought the image above was a fabric store!
ReplyDeleteI have the same cabinet for fabric storage. It's key to be able to see what I have otherwise I never use it!

ReplyDeleteYour sewing room clean up looks great. You are able to fit a lot into that space. I am much more productive when I stop to do some tidying up every now and then.
ReplyDeleteYou're making the first step towards organizing your scraps and you should be so proud! I think you'll find that cutting them up into useful sizes will help you to use them up. I'm moving that way too, so I totally get the reluctance to cut up fabric for a project that you haven't even thought of yet. Let's take this step together!
ReplyDeleteLooks great to me!
ReplyDeleteYou can cut your fabrics easily (even while watching tv) with an Accuquilt. It even makes cutting fun.I have a manual one but think I would get the electric version if I were buying one now.
ReplyDeleteWhat cabinets are you storing the fabric in? Ikea? Shouldn't these fabrics be protected from the light?
I recently detashed 5 large office file boxes to a friend for use in charity quilts. I had so much fabric that it was scattered all over the place (just 2 places now) and it was giving me brain freeze when pulling fabrics. Most of my quilting fabric is now on 2 tall Ikea shelves and covered to protect it from fading. My mixed fabrics--linen blends--and large pieces for backing are stored elsewhere but visible in a closet.
I showed my husband the photo--he doesn't believe that most quilters have a lot of fabric.
I love cutting fabric. It makes me feel productive without having to commit to any design ideas. (Let's face it: it's how I procrastinate!) Best wishes on your reorg efforts. It's the first step in using up those scraps!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the scrap sorting, I did it a while back and it was really helpful having them cut in to manageable sizes, needs doing again though!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the wonderful cabinets behind your long arm machine? I like the size and that they have doors with glass. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the sorting!
