It's the second Tuesday of the month, and time for the Scraptastic Tuesday link up hosted by Nicky - Mrs. Sew and Sow and me.
I've been playing with my Liberty scraps and my Nine Patch blocks have become a medallion. It's about 52" square right now and I am thinking it needs another round of a small border and then one more round of larger Nine Patches and it will be done.

You will recall that I was making nine patches and got stuck on how to put them together. They felt busy and boring to me.
On the weekend, I though, maybe what I need is a focus, so I made the one larger nine patch with my few larger pieces of Liberty fabrics. I laid them out and it seemed that they were asking for an interior border.
I wanted this to be a simple and old fashioned sort of quilt with all Liberty fabrics and really simple piecing, so I just added a scrappy strip boarder in the centre with the lightest scraps I have.
After playing around a bit, it seemed to be a bit more fun to use the blue blocks for the corners, and last night I pieced the top together so far. I am pretty sure I will add a bit more, I just need to see if I large enough scraps left over to make these larger nine patches or if I need to make another block for the edge round, maybe 16 patches?
Now, its time for you to link up and share your scrappy projects to inspire us all.

I like your Liberty quilt very much. It is almost exactly what I would want to do if I had some Liberty. I would want to pair it with some solids, not go too complicated with the piecing, and let the fabríc shine. i think your idea of creating that medallion does exactly what you wanted it to in giving the quilt a focus. I can't wait to see this completed! it is already beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! Thanks for sharing your process and outcome. I'm always inspired.

ReplyDelete16 patches would be cute!
ReplyDeleteI like that you made the center nine patch bigger - really makes it click!
ReplyDeleteLove your soft looking quilt! The center is a great focal point for those lovely florals.:)
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done with your nine patches!
ReplyDeleteP.S. 25 patches would be cute for the next border...
I'm not a great fan of Liberty but this is stunning, I have a feeling it must be delicious to touch!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really pretty quilt and I think the larger nine-patch and lighter scraps was a great design decision.
ReplyDeleteLast but not least---and with 7 minutes to spare : )
