This little quilt is named Flash. She is about 40.5" square after a wash and dry. I made her - front, back and binding, with Artisan Cottons which Windham Fabrics kindly sent to me to try out.
Windham Fabrics sent me the fabrics for free, and they did not ask me to say or do anything with them particularly except use them and chat about it for this blog hop. So the opinions here are my own.
These fabrics have a nice weight. Although they are a shot cotton - one colour of thread is woven with another colour of thread to make the fabric - they are also a nice weight similar to a regular quilting cotton.
I washed and dried them before I used them and there was almost no colour on my colour catcher, just a hit of dye from the cool colour load which included the black. I washed the quilt when she was done last night, without a colour catcher and there are no issues with colour transfer at all. As usual, the washing also gave the rather heavily quilted quilt a beautiful soft drape.
I had a lot of fun making the back. I picked my favourite colours of the bundle that had enough left over for this improv curvy piecing. I am sure that I am going to play with this curvy piecing again soon.
The binding was made from left over scraps. I machine stitched it in place.
\
I quilted the quilt with Aurifil 50wt thread, in a yellow-olive green variegated thread on the front and a pale yellow in the bobbin. I did not want to use white or a white based thread as it felt like that would compete with the colours in the fabrics, and I am really pleased with the results using the yellows.
These fabrics are really rich in colour. Some of them have more of the iridescence that shot cottons often have than others. I actually like the ones with less shine the best, but they are all beautiful. I used almost all the colours in the line in my quilt.
You can see that, after the wash, the quilt has crinkled just enough that even the black fabrics work well with the yellow based quilting thread.
Now, I also get to give away one full bundle of these beautiful fabrics. To enter to win, just leave one comment here - one per person. The draw will close at midnight, MST, Friday, January 30 and I randomly draw the winner and will let you know the result on Saturday.
Do leave me a way to find you - if your comments are not linked to a profile with an email attached, please leave one in your comment. If I cannot find you I will draw a new winner.
I recommend these fabrics. They are lovely to work with and you can see the beautiful quilt that resulted. And I recommend that you check out each post on the blog hop, as besides learning more about these fabrics and seeing beautiful projects, there is a chance to win one these beautiful Artisan Cottons bundles at each stop - you might want to enter them all. Here is the schedule:
I leave you with this photo, in slightly different light. You can see how these fabrics shine, they sort of do flash or shine, don't you think.
Best,
Leanne

Fabulous wonky log cabins & I love the vibrant colours! Would love an opportunity for trying out these shot cottons compared to Oakshott & Kaffee Fassett shot cottons(have worked with both in the past). Thanks for the opportunity :)
Great finish! I love a fun backing and those improv curves totally fit the bill.

love your quilt and I would certainly love to win that bundle!!
The yellow quilting adds a lovely touch!
What a terrific design and result! I would love to try out this range of fabrics.
They sound like lovely fabrics to work with and they look gorgeous! My only experience with shot cottons is Oakshott (gorgeous to look at and sew (by hand or machine), as you know!) and a Kaffe shot cotton (wriggly; hard to manage; feels quite flimsy, especially when compared to Oakshott), it would be interesting to compare all three...
i've never used any shot cottons but would love a chance to try!
Your quilt looks lovely. I really like the quilting on it. I don't think I posess the patience for that. By the time I get to the quilting stage I want it done!! I've never used shot cottons before. I've read some reviews that talked about bleeding and shrinking but you don't seem to have the same problem with these.
Those are some yummy, yummy colors! And I love the quilt, especially the scrappy binding. And the quilting. It's just all so pretty. Thanks for the honest review and for the giveaway!
audacious.squid@gmail.com
I just love the quilt!!! I have yet to use shot cottons tho I have read alot about them. I may have to try them sooner rather than later. sandybailey55@hotmail.com
Love this quilt! You have inspired me.
I've been wondering about shot cotton. Massdrop had it a while back, but I didn't want to buy it without knowing a quilter's point of view...
Beautiful quilt!
Such gorgeous colours - really love your dense quilting!!
Great quilt - wish I had your long arm, too. What a wonderful prize. I have made an improv quilt with my hand dyes and love the process. Would love the opportunity to work with shot cottons at some stage.
Gorgeous quilt! I would love to try these new fabrics.
That is a stunning quilt! I'm really getting into solids, especially shot cottons. Thanks for the chance!

KaliaContiki@gmail.com

What a great use of the shot cottons resulting in a fantastic quilt. Love thes wonky blocks.
Ta Da indeed! Beautiful, Leanne! Would love to give these a try. Thanks for the giveaway!
Very nice! I used Kaffe shot cottons for the first time to make a swoon quilt for my mom and I was a little disappointed at the weight of the cotton - it seemed very thin. I assumed then all shot cottons were thin...? But I guess not! I will have to try a different variety next time. Thanks for letting me know :)
Love this and your back is really cool too. Haven't worked that much with shots so I would love to try more projects with them.
I loved the front and back of your quilt. Actually I love everything about this quilt - binding, quilting - it's all beautiful. I have not made a quilt using only solids, let alone with shot cottons.
this quilt is striking!
What a great quilt. Beautiful colours in the fabrics.
The fabrics look great. The colors seem very clear. Love the quilt.
What a gorgeous quilt, front and back! Love the wonky log cabins and all your lovely stitching!
Oh my, your quilt is wonderful and the back is a quilt unto itself. Just beautiful!
Beautiful fabrics! Would definitely enjoy playing with these. Love this finish!
Lovely quilt and this line of fabrics will definitely be on my wish list.
Thanks for telling us about the texture of the fabric. The only other shot cotton I've worked with wasn't really comparable with quilting cotton. It had a much looser weave and tended to ravel a lot. The quilt you've designed really shows off the beauty of the colours, and I love the contrast between flowing curves and sharp angles.
I love your quilt! Another take on the log cabin and very graphic. I love the shot cottons, always loved chambray shirts.
Beautiful fabrics and awesome quilts! Cannot wait until these fabrics hit the stores!!
Beautiful quilt! Both front and back. It's interesting that you like the fabrics that are less showy in their manufacture. I haven't seen one in person yet, but the idea sounds gorgeous and looks just beautiful online. I appreciate the opportunity to win some! That would be so exciting and fun!
Love your gorgeous quilt!
Thanks,
Peggy

Leanne, I love it!!! and these fabrics are just so darned good :) xo
Love this quilt. Another one added to my list to do thanks for sharing
I do like the iridescence of shot cottons and these have such rich saturated colors. I love the quilt and may have to make a similar one. I need a smaller quilt for over the fireplace and that would be perfect.
They do shine, but more subtly than a flash, I would call them a wink.
I LOVE the back best! ljridge4511 (at) gmail (dot) com
i love your quilt.
Love your quilt! I would love to try shot cottons. Thanks!
I don't know what side of your quilt I love the most! They are both so beautiful! I LOVE the wonky blocks! I'm a new quilter so I've not heard of shot cottons. I'm not sure I understand what exactly it is? I'd love to make this same exact quilt! Very unoriginal I know but I just LOVE it! Lol. Thank you for the chance to win and thank you for posting and blogging. It gives us newbies a lot of inspiration and help.

The quilt looks great, and the fabrics sound wonderful! Looking forward to trying these out myself. Oh, and I love your improv curves backing!
I love the quilt and I Would love to find out if I will love the fabric as much as I think I will. Julieannreuben@gmail.com
What a glorious, generous prize! I'm one who thinks solids should be matched up with patterns, but this quilt has me thinking otherwise! It's perfect and wonky...just the way I like things!
Very cool design, I love it :)
Flash is a perfect name for this quilt - the wonderful colors just pop out with joy! I love your design and the fabrics and the quilting! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the giveaways. The work on the quilt is WHAO!!! I love it, the best defined squared quit have even seen on net. Would love to win the fabrics so i can make something similar as well. Thanks.
It's a fantastic quilt - I think because it is (deceptively) simple it shows the shot cottons beautifully.
Thank you for your review, I can often only buy fabric online so it is good to hear about the fabric weight and how it washes as this is information I don't usually have prior to purchasing :)

Another beautiful quilt, using stunning fabric, love it!
What a fab quilt, I love the modern looking blocks and the wavy back.
Leanne, I really like this reversible quilt. She looks good coming and going and I'd be hard-pressed to choose a favorite face. I love the way you used the black. I've only worked with Kaffe Fassett shots before and have to turn my tension way down to avoid ripples. I'd love to try these. The colors look rich and I can only imagine the iridescence. Your matchstick quilting is amazing as usual!
Wow - your Flash quilt is like modern art - fabulous
What a fun quilt. I love the colors and design on the front, and the back is the perfect complement. The quilting adds such great texture. Thanks so much for sharing.

I really like the quilt you made with these - I have been avoiding shot cottons because I read that there is a lot of shrinkage with these fabrics - did you experience this with this line?
Love your quilt and these fabrics are the perfect choice because they aren't flat like solids. They seem to have depth. I love the backing too - a perfect complement to the sharp angles on the front. Thanks for the chance to win!
Beautiful colors in the collection! I love it that you have two quilts in one with front and back in the same fabrics. Very lovely!
