A bit of Doe for Giveaway Day

Welcome! If you are new here, I'm Leanne, I live in Alberta, Canada and I blog about quilting. I hope you will poke around and get to know me a little, maybe by checking out the My Quilts page here. I'll  show off a few of them here for you too.

For Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day I have that beautiful bundle of 11 fat quarters of fabrics from Doe and Architextures both designed by Carolyn Freidlander. I purchased the bundle from Daryl over at Fabric Spark and she is holding it to ship it off to the winner for me anywhere in the world, as soon as the draw is done.

Untitled

I have to tell you that these fabrics are even better in person. Surprisingly they are available in Canada (and the U.K.) early and I have a bunch of my own already.

Reflection

***** contest is now closed ******
To enter to win, please leave me one comment only. I'm hoping for some time to relax over the holidays, so please share with me an idea for a new book to read or a movie or TV show to watch, or maybe your favourite music for me to load on my iphone. I will leave the giveaway open until 10:00 pm. MST on Friday December 12, 2014 and I'll announce the randomly drawn winner on Saturday the 13th.

All the Colours

Two things:

  • Leave me a way to find you. If you don't have a email connected to your commenter profile, leave your email in your comment. If I cannot find you, I will draw another winner.
  • I won't be responding to the comments but please know that I will be checking out your suggestions and I thank you for sharing them with me.

Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day is on all week, so you will want to visit back there often to enter new giveaways as they are entered.

And feel free to come back to check here on Tuesday (tomorrow) to join Nicky from Mrs. Sew and Sow and I for the December the Scraptastic Tuesday link too, there are fantastic prizes for it too.

Best,

Leanne

If you like easy reading - just to get lost for several hours without too much thinking - I highly recommend Dorthea Benton Frank - beginning with Sullivans Island. Stories are based in the "Lowcountry" of S. Carolina and her characters are just brilliant! Each books stands alone, it is not a series.
Enjoy!!

Both my husband and I like the Longmire series of books by Craig Johnson. There was 3 season of the tv show on cable until it was cancelled this year. Netflix is picking up the show and making a 4th season in 2015, so it looks like our family is going to have to get a subscription to Netflix for Christmas. I love your quilts and would love to win some Doe fabrics.

I wish I had a book to recommend, but I must admit that almost all of my free time is taken up quilting or working on quilt patterns. Hmmm maybe I need to make some time to read! Based on friend recommendations I'm tempted to try Outlander.

I spend scads of time reading so really recommend going back and rereading some of your old favorites that you haven't read for many years. It's amazing how enjoyable that can be. Even books from your childhood. I'm currently re-reading A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. I also have to say I so love your giveaway. My baby sister's married name is Jill Doe, and she has four little (or not) Doenuts, and it would be so much fun to make something for her with this collection.

I recently really enjoyed reading Hospital by the River. It is the story of the life and work of Dr Catherine Hamlin and her late husband who went to Ethiopia for a year working in a hospital there and ended up staying for the rest of their lives, building a hospital and a midwifery school and multiple clinics and changing the lives of thousands of Ethiopian women in the process. It is an incredible story and beautifully written.

My husband and I just found the TV series "Mysteries with Laura" such a fun show. Its about a red headed lady detective with twin boys approx. age 7 and her boss is her ex who is subtly trying to get back in to her life. Very funny and she is a kick. Also I just read a great book Josiah for President by Martha Bolton. This is GREAT. an Amish man in the running for president. covers every emotion. "Can a man of faith become the leader of America?" And the theater was very good also.

I have been enjoying the podcast The Serial, I think made by the people who broadcast This American Life, it is such a great story of a real life crime, & is brilliantly told & truly gripping. And for me it was a bonus that it was the perfect accompaniment to some quilting. Thanks for the awesome giveaway, I'm a big fan of Carolyn Friedlander's designs.

I loved The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd! Totally inspired the quilt on my blog today.

I can see Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery has already been recommended, so on a totally different note, if you haven't seen How to Train Your Dragon (1 and 2) I think you could give it a try. I know it's basically for children, but it's got splendid animation and the story is quite good with lots of funny moments.

A TV show I enjoyed recently is 'The Last Ship'. It's one of those shows you know is rubbish but is surprisingly compelling anyway!

If you are looking for a laugh, I would suggest watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Book: Em and the Big Hoom. It's a novel but reading it it is hard to tell that it isn't a memoir. Funny & touching. And not too long. My current favorite. :)

Really fabulous fabric - designs and colors both. Thanks so much for the chance.

I recently finished All Roads Lead to Austen: A Year-long Journey with Jane. Great story about a sabbatical, Jane Austin reading groups in different countries in Latin America. While reading take notes on the books she finds out about!

This time of year, my grown daughters and I cuddle up in the big chair and still giggle through the movie "ELF". We laugh and laugh, and then we turn out the lights and enjoy the quiet of each other with the Christmas lights and decor. Something said, for coming home for the holidays.
Merry Christmas.

Wow- I'm not very helpful in any those areas. I'm currently reading "Heaven is For Real"; I don't watch much tv; I just listen while hubby and daughter watch. And I keep it silent in the car as it's one of my few quiet times each day.

Relaxing with a good movie or book, such as Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck, is a good idea especially with a cup of tea and cozy quilt. irenemarie2008@gmail.com

Hubby and I just started the series Mr. Selfridge and am enjoying it quite a lot. Funny the things that you take for granted that were once considered unheard of, a good reminder of how it is all a moving target.

Your quilts are stunning! I like to listen to calming music. I use Pandora and put in different genres depending on what mood I am in!

Hmm... book: how about a classic like 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas?
movie: you can go holiday like Elf or you can go classic like Treasure of the Sierra Madre
TV: have you seen Sherlock? There have been 3 seasons so far, but there are only 3 episodes per season so it's not much to catch up on.

Try "Sonata arctica" for some melodic metal music (not very heavy metal). The band is from Finland but their lyrics are in english. Winter-greetings from Finland (we finally got some snow) by Mari; mamioja(at)luukku.com

Terry Pratchett novels. I like the beginning for sentimental reasons but recommend people start with Small Gods, Witches Abroad or the seasonally appropriate Hog Father. There are over 30 books! Thanks! notwendy gmail

Hi there Leann,
I had a lot of fun watching Breaking Bad on Netflix while making the first of 2 super-long king-sized EPP 1" hexagon quilts. They both have over 4,000 pieces each! About 75% of the fabrics I used in both where gifts from pen pals or swaps from around the world. When I had finished hand-sewing the border on the first one, my teenaged son asked me to make him one too!
We recently watched The Hour on Netflix, it is a British show about a new TV show that was airing in the mid-50's. Very entertaining!
Thanks so much for the giveaway,
