Giant Plus - Ta Da!
I use this quilt all the time, for naps and as an extra layer on my bed. She is one of my favourites. Today I realized I have not shown her off properly here as a finish. She was made with Amy Butler fabrics and a Three Sisters Paris Map print and finished at about 55" x 60".
This quilt took a morning to invent and piece, I shared that with you here. The quilting was fast too, I just sewed straight lines on either sides of the seams, which makes a nice pattern on the back too. The binding is also an Amy Butler print.
I know why I delayed showing her off. The photos were so blueish, as you can see from the photo of the back, which I took this fall. But then she was on my bed, in use, and no better photos were taken. I also planned to write a pattern for this quilt, but just around then several other giant plus patterns appeared or were located around the internet and I was not sure that folks wanted or needed another. So I put it off and thus put off sharing the finished quilt.
So, does anyone want a pattern for this quilt, or are we content now with all the others available on the internet?
I have one more quilt that I did not post about this year to show off, but I truly need better photos of it, so maybe the light will be ok this afternoon. And with any luck I might even finish one more before it is time to post my FAL finishes, wish me luck.
Best,
Leanne
A pattern for this quilt would be awesome thanks. I think it would be perfect to snuggle under. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI adore your choice of colors...and the backing! What is your background fabric? With your photo I think I could do this without a pattern...About what size are your squares that make up the pluses? It's wonderful ...
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely! It even LOOKS cozy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric choices, and it has a really cosy feel to it :o)
ReplyDeleteYes I'd like pattern. I'm seeing this as quilt for new son-in-law : )
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous, Leanne!!
ReplyDeleteThis is MUST HAVE pattern and your color choices are awesome -- would love a pattern - thanks and Happy New Year #!}
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Great fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI would love a pattern. I like the monochromatic color scheme.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, I'd love a pattern. This looks so great and would make a fairly quick charity quilt as well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, glad you finally got to share it :o)
ReplyDeleteI love that the pluses are all in contact with each other! A pattern would be fab, but no pressure.
ReplyDeleteYes - I would love to have this pattern, it would be great for kids too! Thank you for taking the time and sharing with us. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, and I really love the pieced backing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the pictures today! I received Amy Butler fabric for Christmas and I have been wrecking my brain what to do with it. Your quilt is exactly the right pattern for it! The weird thing is we actually selected the same colours.... Eeks! :-) blue, green, teals, navy and a bit of greenish gold. I am planning a navy background fabric. Before I start cutting I have to make sure I have enough of that navy.
ReplyDeleteI am interested if you did anything different in the construction compaired to the tutorials out there.
Thanks again!
Happy new year!

Very nice Leanne
ReplyDeleteI like how the pluses float on the background. A pattern or tutorial would be really useful. I would be keen to make this quilt for my younger son's 18th birthday in 2014. Di x
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quilt, and the fabrics really show up nicely on it. So good it is already well used and loved.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing quilt. I adore Amy Butler fabrics and use them all the time. You cn always recognize them in a piece. I am going to go back and read your link about how you invented and pieced it. Your straight line quilting looks so nice and carries out the linear quality of the plus signs and the squares. Beautiful. genie
ReplyDeleteThis is really nice - different from the "plus " quilts I have seen. A tutorial would be great. I would have loved to make this with my AB Lark fabric. Instead I am making a string quilt and not loving it at the moment. It's taking forever and I think that the Lark fabrics would have looked better in larger pieces instead of all chopped up.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your quilt, and even more so, love that it is being used and loved! Would like a tutorial. (Think I've already used too many "loves")
ReplyDeleteIts real beauty Leanne! I love it, but then I have rather a soft spot for Amy Butler fabrics :) Glad you are getting plenty of use out of it too, nothing better in my opinion xx
ReplyDeleteLovely color combo. I feel like I'm able to make one by looking at your pictures. Plus I think I seen some tuts already as well.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful! Love the color placement. Yes, I would love a tutorial on how to make this quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love the calming blues! I've done a few plus patterns now! Never tire of seeing them popping up in blogland! Jxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful choice of fabrics....love all those colours & the pattern.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, love the colours.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun variation on the plus design. I really like fabric collection you used.
ReplyDeleteLove your + quilt and a tutorial would be great:)
ReplyDeleteI love your take on the plus idea. Great color scheme and oversized blocks with negative space around the edge. Great design.
ReplyDeleteI would love to at least know your finished dimension and what the finished size of each square is! Beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love the blues conbined with the gray background!
ReplyDeleteI really love this quilt! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteHi Leanne! This is really beautiful quilt! I love the plus pattern and your fabric and colour choises are adorable! Happy NEW Year! x Teje
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty. I love the colors in this one.
ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty, Leanne! I can see why this quilt is among your favorites. The prints are lovely and the background colors and placement work well. Good luck with the remaining finish. Did you know you inspire me? I'm sure I'm not the only one. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, I really like the colour choices. I would love a pattern, please.
ReplyDeleteI love your color and fabric choice - I have a bunch of the same fabrics in my stash! Amy Butler's blues are always so pretty! I would love you to create us a tutorial for this quilt! Thank you so much for sharing! It is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, I always love to see crosses quilts, so I sure want to make one... some day!
ReplyDeleteLove the big plus and I would love to see your tutorial for it!
ReplyDeleteI Love it. I plan to make a plus quilt early this year for my new niece or nephew due in February. I can probably nut out measurements on my own, but if you do make a tutorial I would follow it.
ReplyDeleteI love how the pluses float on the background. I would also like a tutorial or pattern, as I am rubbish at figuring things out for myself!
