A mug rug and a winner
Despite all your support yesterday for seeing my seemingly never ending quilting on Sunset as she progresses, I found something new to share. I actually made this little 7.5" mug rug in October for the mug rug swap at my Modern Quilt Guild meeting but I forgot to share it here. It is another in the cycles series. The circle is a Kona aqua and the background and binding is Essex Linen.
I used one of my favourite Sweetwater text prints from the Mama Said Sew line on the back and it is matchstick quilted with a variegated blue Superior King Tut thread.
I want to make more of these and also placemats - I think that they would look so modern and crisp on my lovely wooden dining room table. I wonder if I will ever tire of making these bold and stark circles.
And congratulations to Cynthia from Cynthia Brunz Designs, who blogs at Quilting is More Fun that Housework. She is the lucky winner of the layer cake from the Fat Quarter Shop. Thank you to the Fat Quarter Shop for sponsoring the give away.
Thank you to everyone who left comments on the giveaway, I enjoyed them all but there were just too many to respond to individually.
I hope you have a great Friday. I can hardly wait for the weekend, when, in addition to a lot of day job work, I can get back to the quilting on Sunset and also finishing my small share - 2 - of the slab quilts for Calgary.
Best,
Leanne
love it! Placemats would be fabulous
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Leanne and the Fat Quarter Shop! I can's wait to start playing with that layer cake!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Cynthia!
ReplyDeleteI need to try the matchstick quilting ... that's what I'm thinking every time I see your circles :-)
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Yes, I agree that a group would make a very lovely table setting (and with the circles as a theme you could introduce all sorts of colours and it would still be coherent).
ReplyDeleteOh it's really cute in miniature!
ReplyDeleteOk love that in miniature! I think I will try that over break. Too much other stuff to get done with the holidays!
ReplyDeleteLove this whole series, Leanne! You are making me itch to sew some circles - it has been a long time :)
ReplyDeleteI love the texture that matchstick quilting adds!
ReplyDeleteLove the modern mug rug, duh. ;-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Cynthia and thanks to FQS!
I love your circles... I think I did catch this bug from you, I have seen them on your blog ( I am making a baby blanket with circles, though with recycled fabrics (mostly shirts), and not solids, because do not have the money to buy solids:) ). And the mug rug.... (I am anyway in my grey phase regarding colours)... Thanks again for the inspiration. Eszter
ReplyDeleteI am thinking you are the L S Lowry of the quilting world Leanne with this fabulous matchstick quilting - I'm in awe as I could never do it but I love seeing it on the beautiful pieces you make.
ReplyDeleteReally good idea to make placemats using this method as they would be nice and firm. Di x
ReplyDeleteLove your mug rug. I would have loved to receive this in a swap. I might have to try one for me.
ReplyDeleteFab mug rug! I think it'd look amazing with a few friends as well as some placemats!
ReplyDeleteThese are delicious and just the right size to be a fast finish! Gorgeous
ReplyDeleteIs the circle appliqued or pieced?
ReplyDeleteOh yes - I might have to add one of those to my To Do list!
ReplyDeleteWell done Cynthia x
Congrats! Those will be fab placemats!
ReplyDeleteAwww, a unicycle!
ReplyDeletethat is a great mug rug - now you've got my mind whirring with mug rugs and placemats like this - let the fun begin!
ReplyDeleteLove the mug rug. It looks great. I may have to make a few of these. I make a mug rug for a friend for Christmas last year and a few weeks ago she stopped by my desk at work and ask it I could make her a few more. That she loved it so much. So I of course said yes. She then told me she would like one or two dozen. I could choice any colors and styles. How generous of her. I am thinking that yours circles could be a couple of them;-) I am loving the simplicity of their look. I just have to decide if I want to quilt them that heavily. I am on a time crunch here....
