My favourite book ever is A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Read it.
ReplyDeleteOh...have you seen Downton Abbey on TV? It is fabulous and the first two seasons are released.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful stack of fabric!
ReplyDeleteBig Bang Theory never fails to make me laugh.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a great read. I second the Downton Abbey suggestion for tv...or Lark Rise to Candleford...both BBC productions.
ReplyDeleteI love traveling around the world with the Amazing Race.
ReplyDeleteI love Downton Abbey!! Book wise I LOVE Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett and I enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy. Thanks for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous giveaway...thanks I have to agree with Big Ban Theory...too sunny!!
ReplyDeleteBut I love Vampire Diarys
I'm re-reading The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp. Its a great book for leisure reading and helpful for getting more regular in creative endeavors. Beating block.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! I just finished listening to The Invisible Bridge was wonderful. I actually added a books section to my blog yesterday for this same reason.
ReplyDeleteHey Leanne, what kind of books are your fave? I am addicted to Ruth Rendell - The Gallowglass, The Keys to the Street - she has so many awesome books (English mystery.) I also love all the Jack Reacher books - they have not disappointed me once (until they cast Tom Cruise in the first movie) and finally, Janet Evanovich is simply awesome. You will laugh aloud the whole way through... happy reading!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of Kate Morton's books!
ReplyDeleteI had a lot of fun recently reading China Mieville's 'Railsea'. It's a little like 'Moby Dick' - but instead of a white whale, the crews of small trains crisscross a world where monster animals swim in the deep earth, and rail tracks are the only safe transport. Strange and fascinating.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favourite TV series is Gilmore Girls. There are 7 seasons, and over 20 episodes per season, so it can keep you entertained for months, even if you watch several a day (don't ask how I know this...) I have watched the whole series about 3 times and just started over again. It's still good!
ReplyDeleteDownton Abbey -- totally lives up to the hype! Thanks for the giveaway, Leanne. Soooo keeping my fingers crossed for this one! :)
ReplyDeleteHave you read the series about a quilt shop by Marie Bostwick. There are three or four books in the series. They are good both to read and in audio format.
ReplyDeleteSQUEeeeeeeeeeee oh gosh you know I'm in love with that fabric. :D
ReplyDeleteLet's see, TV series: I just got hooked on Parks and Recreation (because of that awesome QAL!) but I think most people know about it now for the same reason. lol Definitely a favorite! The other show that I can't get enough of is Sherlock (the BBC version) which is two seasons of mini-series. There are 3 in each series, but each one is almost 2 hours long. SO SO SO good. I watch it for the awesome chemistry between Sherlock and Watson.
Books: Which genre?! I've just started reading The Night Circus which I've heard good things about! I've also read all the Janet Evanovich books that someone else recommended, and agree they're fantastic (up to about #8, the later ones have kind of lost their soul a bit). Those are murder mysteries. If you like fantasy, The Name of the Wind is fantastic. It's a little slow to get into, but once you get to chapter 3 it's a "can't put it down" type thing. If you are okay with some darkish weirdness, the Katherine Kerr fantasy books (starting with Daggerspell) are amazing, and follow the same set of characters through different reincarnations. Which reminds me, Cloud Atlas is supposed to be an incredible book along sorta similar lines, but I haven't read it yet so I don't know if I can recommend it. :)
I will now stop babbling. Sorry!
My latest favorite (they change fairly often!) book is State of Wonder by Ann Patchett. The Help was excellent as an audiobook, if you haven't read/listened to that yet.
ReplyDeletearbendlin(at)gmail(dot)com

caribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com
My favorite TV series is Mad Men! What a great giveaway! I'm dying to see Architextures in person!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this line! My fav book series is the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (urban fantasy) which also inspired the HBO series True Blood. I'm a fan of the first couple series of the HBO show, but when it basically ventured away from the books I became a little disappointed. Game of Thrones on HBO is AWESOME and is also based off of a great book series. I highly suggest this if you are into a sci-fi historical drama. Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Downton Abbey are also really good TV series if you haven't seen them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the recommendation of the BBC version of Sherlock. For comedy, I love Community and Parks and Recreation. One of my favorite old series to watch is NYPD Blue and Homicide.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite tv show is Friends.
ReplyDeleteOMG - I am drooling! This is the one fabric line I am saving all my money for so I can buy all the pieces so my fingers - and toes - are crossed for sure!!!

The movie version of I Capture the Castle is faithful and fun, but there's nothing like the voice in the original book! I may need to reread it again myself. Thanks for the chance at this amazing fabric line.
ReplyDeleteMotherissues at gmail dot com

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is Wicked by Gregory Maguire.
ReplyDeleteHmmm .... I have no idea what you like to watch or read .... try Mad Men, or Firefly (often for sale on Amazon for $15) ... I also just picked up "Lie to Me".
ReplyDeleteAs for books, have you read Meg Cabot's adult series (or her kid books - she's the author of "The Princess Diaries") Fun, quick, chick lit.
If you like fantasy, try anything by Terry Pratchett (well, comedy, read him if you like goofy stuff!) or or urban fantasy (werewolves etc in the real world) try Jim Butcher.
As a Canadian, I also have to point you towards Kelley Armstrong (has a YA series, but her adult stuff is better - more werewolves), and Robert Sawyer for philosopical science fiction, or Tanya Huff for great comedy / fantasy or sci fi series.
(Fingers crossed towards winning pretty fabric!)
Sarah

Thanks for the giveaway!
My current fav tv show is Castle...what an awesome giveaway Leanne!!
ReplyDeleteI love anything by Jane Austen. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is powerful, but it's a thinker. Thanks for the chance at the awesome fabric.

ReplyDeleteMy friend recommended a Tea Rose. I have it sitting on my nightstand waiting for me, becasue she warned that you wanted to be able to dedicate time to it. According to her, she took it away with her on safari in Africa and ended up so engrossed in the book she forgot to look out the windows!!
ReplyDeleteE
The Passage by Justin Cronin was one of the best books I've read in the last two years; and the sequel , The Twelve, is out now! Best audiobook, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. YA, but not in the Twilight vein (in content or quality). Beautifully written, quirky, funny, and exciting. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteannesimonot@sasktel.net
What a great giveaway! I like humor in audio books and am listening to one by Carl Hiassen (Skinny Dip) hich causes me to laugh out loud while on my morning walks; funniest ever book of his was Double Whammy . ReplyDeleteAs far as tv goes, my current favourites are Once Upon a Time and Elementary.
beaniekins84(at)gmail(dot)com

ReplyDeleteI always learn so much with his books! And they are so entertaining, thanks again!
Super generous give away Leanne! My fave book is The Lions of Alrassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's historical fantasy and it is exceptional. It also has the best ending of any book I have ever read.
ReplyDeleteThe first 2 books in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness were good ones to listen to, if you like, history, witches and vampires. This is an adult, not a young adult series. I loved listening to the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I don't think I could have read it though. All the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer are fun and The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. So are the Sisterchicks books by Robin Jones Gunn(Christian lit).
ReplyDeleteAnd one more, Leonardo's Shadow: Or, My Astonishing Life as Leonardo da Vinci's Servant by Christopher Peter Grey.
TV on Hulu we LOVE Endgame. We are watching Magnum PI, Monk, Psych, NCIS, and The Mentalist.
TV online, YouTube specifically, we got sucked into Super size me, the series.
Sorry! That was a lot!
You can refer to my list of recommended books from last week's Sew Mama Sew post. So for TV, I love Sex and the City, Law and Order and old series like The Waltons, Hart to Hart, and Moonlighting. Downton abbey is a given, right?
ReplyDeleteThe best book I read recently was Cutting for Stone.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Leanne, what a fabulous stack of fabric! Thank you for the chance to win. Have you read Suite Francaise? Amazing book. As I am lying in bed having just woken up I don't have up the authors name direct to hand but if you want it just let me know. We have also really enjoyed the Danish series The Killing.
ReplyDeletePeople raved about how wonderful this fabric was from market. Looks nice. I agree that she takes nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteI always recommend "the likeness" by Tana French. It's a favorite of mine.
I can see that several books I wanted to recommend are already in the comments (like Zusak's Book Thief, and Fforde's books, and Tim Winton's Cloudstreet and also Big Bang Theory for TV series). I know Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell is quite popular now because of the film, but I liked the audiobook very much.
ReplyDeleteFabulous giveaway! Definitely Downtown Abbey for something to watch. And reading: any Kathy Reich's book-she writes crime and is fantastic
ReplyDeleteNeil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors. I recently finished listening to "Good Omens" (co-authored with Terry Pratchett) and couldn't stop laughing. :) Thanks for the chance!

Now I hope that helps you fill your wish list.
Ooh, we love a good TV show here... Downtown Abbey, Homeland, Criminal Minds, Law and Order: SVU...
ReplyDeleteThis fabric is fabulous - I saw it the other day and was really excited. Usually I go for plain fabric, but this set of designs is really eye catching. Please put my name in the hat for the drawing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are always changing, but for an easy educational read, try the History of US series. I'm reading the set I got for my son and am learning so much.
One book that I want to read is Remembrance of Things Past. I bought a copy that was printed on tissue paper so it hasn't been read yet.
My favorite book is a Tale of Two Cities. It has something for everyone and was much better than any movie.
A movie though that I saw a long time ago but I think of every once in a while is London Kills Me - very surprise ending.
There is a soap opera on the BBC that I try to listen to, but it's hard to remember to get in on the schedule is the Archers. It's been on the air for 60-years - each show is I think 15 minutes long. They have the daily shows or a weekly round up - lots of fun to listen to the accents and the story is very compelling too.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteWell my fav book ever is lord of the rings. I've no idea how many times I've read it.
ReplyDeleteTV - depends on if you like fantasy stuff. Being human is great. I don't know how much uk stuff you can get over there. I'm halfway through a 4 episode thriller called secret state all about political intrigue. Enjoyable so far.
My favourite ever two books are Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Ive read them both but not heard the audio book

ReplyDeleteLove The Good Wife, Suits, and Snapped.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Interview with the Vampire last night and would recommend it! One of my favourite books is Watermelon by Marian Keyes though, I have read it so many times and I don't often re-read books :) I love the BBC Pride and Prejudice tv series if you can find that too.

ReplyDeleteIf you can get hold of Jeeves and Wooster on DVD it is fantastic! Definitely worth a try!
ReplyDeleteAnother great giveaway!! Ok, favorite book series hands down is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Be prepared to invest some time though, it's 8 books total and they're all 600+ pages. Actually, the shortest one is about 670 or so pages, the rest are over 800. Such a well written story though, you will fall in love with the characters. Favorite TV show is Downton Abbey. I'm not sure what your options are there in Canada but I know you can catch the first 2 seasons on Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon. And if you get hooked on it (or already are) and can't wait for season 3 to air there (I know we have to wait until January to catch it on PBS even though it has already aired in the UK), I can tell you where to go to see it. I've already watched it and it's GOOD!
ReplyDeleteThe Beach Cafe by Lucy Diamond is a nice easy read and will put you in the mood for the Summer.
ReplyDeleteHunger Games is the best book I've read in a long time. The only problem is you will then want to read the other 2 books.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of those "can't put it down" times for me ... I read all 3 books in 4 days.

ReplyDeleteWow...that's a hard question, because I always think the last great book I read could be my favorite. I just finished "Captain Ahab's Wife" by Sena Jeter Naslund. It is not easy reading but is written so beautifully it kept pulling me back, night after night, until I finished it.
