Sometimes I even work on a quilt

Mod Pop in progress

There is my large Mod Pop so far. I have at least two more chains of the aqua to make. The question I am contemplating is: do I also add one more block to the bottom of each chain, for a full queen size quilt.

Mod Pop - waiting to become curved units

This weekend I did some cutting. I cannot stand to cut all the pieces for a whole quilt at once, so I cut some, sew some.

Mod Pop - some curves sewn

I chain pieced the curved units. It took just about one hour to sew enough curved units for 7 blocks.

Mod Pop - curves all pressed and trimmed

Here are the units, pressed and trimmed.

Mod Pop in progress

There it is right side up. I am very excited at how this crazy colour scheme is coming together. I have one more block done and tonight I have to do more cutting before I can piece more blocks.

We are going to have another prize in the Mod Pop QAL for one of the people who get their the tops done for December 2. Despite the leisurely pace of the QAL, some people want to give their quilt as a holiday present so I am stepping up the pace some. Since my quilt is for me, I am just hoping to be done in time for holiday moving watching.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I am happy to be working a quilt for a change, it has been a long while, what with bags and EPP and swaps and bees and such.

Best,

Leanne

  2. The colors are fabulous. I never would have chosen them but I would gladly choose them now. Just fabulous.
You are the opposite of me -- I not only cut everything first, if I know what the binding will be, I do it after cutting. Then the two worst parts are over before I even "officially" start. I honestly enjoy hand-stitching the back of the binding so once I start sewing it's downhill. Assuming the seam ripper stays in its little pouch and doesn't make an appearance...

  10. This quilt is coming together so beautifully. I, too, cut some, sew some. It hurts my wrist and shoulders to cut a whole quilt at once.

  15. You’re on a roll Leanne, so why not make it bigger? It’s looking fantastic!

I never cut fabrics for a whole quilt, I often even work block by block, so I won’t get tired of doing the same thing and... I can change my mind if I want to!

  18. I love the Mod Pop quilt pattern and this one is lovely - actually it is one of those patterns where I have never seen an ugly Mod Pop. Your colours are great. Good luck with your 2nd Dec finish!

  20. Beautiful Leanne. Although you inspire me to get my ass in gear and sew, I am away until late November, so there's no chance of me getting it done by 2nd December! I am aiming for a finish before the end of the year though!

  24. Leanne, I say go for the queen size. And your color scheme makes total sense to me. What you have there are complimentary colors, and they really do compliment.

  25. I'm with you, I cut some, sew some, cut some.....: I don't have the attention span to do otherwise! I love how the quilt is turning out

  26. oh gosh, this is STUNNING! loving the colors. I say go big or go home, this is definitely a quilt i'd want to make big enough to put on a bed! I'm the same way in terms of cutting... that way if I lose steam I don't end up with a whole bunch of wasted pieces!

  29. Leanne, I love this top! And when I clicked on the link I had to giggle - my daughter-in-law's name is Julie Pickels (notice the spelling dif?) - how coincidental!
Quick question: I have acrylic templates like those shown that I used on a Retro Flowers quilt - could you maybe tell me the size - would love to make this. Many thanks!
